Kira Faith Spedale
How it all started

Walking for Kira Faith

Kira Faith Spedale was an 11-year-old triplet and resident of Elmhurst, IL and Fontana, WI. Kira loved Lake Geneva, where she first learned to swim and spent long summer days.

In May 2013, Kira was diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain stem tumor called DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) and endured a pioneering fight. Join us to celebrate Kira's life with music, laughter, raffles and fun when we Walk the Lake!

The Forbeck Foundation began in memory of Billy Guy Forbeck, who died of Neuroblastoma in 1984. The Foundation has hosted scientific forums for over 35 years, with many meetings held in Lake Geneva, WI. Walk the Lake funded a Forbeck Forum on DIPG in 2019.

Funding World-Class Research

Walk the Lake has made a direct and lasting impact on pediatric cancer research. Proceeds from past events have funded Forbeck Forums right here in Lake Geneva, intimate and invite-only scientific meetings that bring together the world's top researchers to collaborate on cures for childhood cancers.

In 2019, Walk the Lake helped fund the Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma forum, bringing together leading oncologists, neurosurgeons, and scientists to tackle DIPG, the very diagnosis that took Kira Faith. In 2025, proceeds helped fund Nucleosome Structure and Function in Cancer, a cutting-edge meeting exploring how histone mutations drive pediatric and adult malignancies, with direct implications for future DIPG therapies.

These meetings spark collaborations, generate new research directions, and accelerate progress toward cures. See the full list of Forbeck Forums ›
